To achieve the most beautiful and refined finished products for our customers, we use a wide variety of materials. We believe this helps the finished flooring, wall accent, medallion, home décor and inlay design products truly stand out. With access to both reclaimed and sustainably sourced resources, we're sure to have the perfect wood, stone or metal to create the right look for your project.
Wood Materials
Our expertly crafted projects use a variety of wood materials chosen specifically for each piece based on the customers' preferences and:
- Overall visual appearance: Natural wood color and variation is implemented into each design for consistent visual appearance that will last for years to come
- Grain: The designs are created with woods that have similar grains to allow for expansion and contraction
- Hardness: Different wood species have different densities, thus some species are more suitable for high traffic areas. Contact Oshkosh Designs to discuss options and durability of woods.
We recognize and appreciate the natural beauty of the materials we incorporate into our designs. It is this appreciation that drives us to use their natural characteristics to add to the uniqueness of each inlay design.
Hardwood Coloring Process
At Oshkosh Designs, we dye impregnate some hardwoods instead of staining. This allows us to achieve various colors that are not characteristically seen in nature, with green and blue being our most popular colors. The reason we dye impregnate the raw lumber is so the color penetrates throughout the entire piece of wood. Our competitors often stain hardwood to create a topical color, but this process allows the color to be sanded out. Our process results in a higher quality, more durable finish that creates a lasting, stunning product.
Nature’s trademarks leave no two pieces of wood or stone alike.
There are a number of characteristics that give each piece of wood a unique personality: wood mineral streaks, small knots, grain and color variations, sap pockets, flecking, etc. Likewise, the varied fissures and crevices found in stone give each piece its own color, texture and structural characteristics.
Variations in parquet floor tiles or any of our handcrafted hardwood products are natural occurrences due to species and age of the wood. Exposure to UV lighting also impacts the look of hardwood. Such variations contribute to the natural beauty and character of these materials. We believe these natural variations allow your piece from Oshkosh Designs to remain beautiful for a lifetime.
